Crossbreed Modular Belly Band Holster [VIDEO REVIEW]

If you have been carrying a firearm for a while, chances are you have heard about Crossbreed Holsters. They offer a wide variety of holster styles for nearly any gun out there. Their reputation is well warranted and they make a super product with a lifetime guarantee.

A cool product they offer that I recently had the chance to review is their Modular Bellyband.

It used to be that carrying a gun in a bellyband style holster was considered by many to be a less-safe option for concealed carry. The chances that your gun could fall out of one of these is amplified because they don't offer as much retention as other modes of carry. Furthermore, they offer almost zero trigger protection.

Well, I want to tell you that all of that changed when Crossbreed introduced their version of bellyband holster.

Crossbreed took the bellyband idea and integrated a Kydex shell molded specifically for your firearm that attaches to the band with Velcro.

Why is this so cool? Not only does it add safety (because now you have a custom Kydex shell securing your firearm and trigger), but it is attached by Velcro giving you more modularity. This means you can remove your firearm from the bellyband when you want to disarm, without having to remove the firearm from the Kydex holster.

The molded shell is a holster in itself, backed with Velcro, that you attach to the bellyband and secure with the bellyband strap. I have always liked the bellyband idea, but never really got on board until now. The bellyband might not work for everyone’s body shape and needs, but it can be the single most comfortable way to carry a firearm if it works for you. The modular bellyband is a versatile system that Crossbreed really thought about.

You can attach your Velcro backed Kydex shell to the bellyband, a bed or car mount, or secure it inside a purse or briefcase. The beauty of it all is that you can secure your holster in different modes without having to unholster and re-holster (which is much safer). You can also purchase additional shells for different guns or extra mag pouches, as needed.

I’m in the look for a good belly band and I seen very good reviews between Crossbreed Modular and Brave Response but not a comparison between the two. Since you have reviewed both of them which one would you recommend the most in terms of being comfortable and concealable.

Hey Louis, Thanks for the question. I would say they are both very comfortable compared to other options. Personally, I like the Brave Response because the ‘belly band’ part is more narrow. I know some people feel the opposite about the narrow band. But for me, wearing a wide belly band in the summer causes me to sweat more than the Brave Response. I love that the Crossbreed incorporates a kydex shell. But this makes it a little harder to conceal when compared to the brave response. Not a huge difference, but there is a slight difference. With either holster, I would recommend wearing an undershirt or tank top. I actually wear a tank top with any holster. I just find it is always more comfortable. Hope this helps…

Like the article states your body type will affect how the belly band will be used. I have a belly and a butt. When never I bend over the belt will slide under my bell and over my butt. The tightness of any belt you are wearing won’t stop the belly band from riding over your waistline exposing the band. So I only use it when wearing sweatpants while walking.
