    May Issue VS Shall Issue: Shall Issue

    Issuing Authority: County Sheriff

    Required Training: Idaho issues a basic and an enhanced permit. The basic permit doesn’t require training but the enhanced permit does.

    How to Apply: Present the application and other required documents with the Sheriff’s office in your county of residence.

    Non-Residents: Non-residents may apply

    Renewal: Permits are valid for 5 years. The renewal fee is $15 but may vary by county

    Processing Time: No more than 90 days

    Cost: $20 + the cost for fingerprinting

    Places Off Limits When Carrying:

    Federal restrictions include all Federal Building, National monuments, National memorials, secure areas.

    State Restrictions include:

    • A courthouse
    • Juvenile justice facility or jail
    • Public or Private school
    • Student dormitory or residence halls
    • Within any building of a public entertainment facility provided that proper signage is conspicuously posted notifying attendees of any restriction (Referring here to an arena, stadium, amplitheater, auditorium, or similar faciliy owned or operated by the University of Idaho)

    Private Property Prohibitions: No gun signs do not have the force of law.
