Topic: Is .22LR Good for Self-Defense?

Much time is spent debating the merits of 9mm vs. .45ACP and other calibers, but what about the good ol’ .22 Long Rifle? Is there any reason why someone would use it as a self-defense load? Or is it ridiculous to even consider such a thought?! Listen in to hear what Riley and Jacob have to say….

I’m kind of curious if either of you have had an experience with the .22TCM RIA/Glock conversions? It is kind of along the lines of a high capacity – high velocity pistol without the recoil of a 9mm.

Hey Carl, I don’t think either Jacob or myself have any experience with the Rock Island Armory .22TCM other than we held one at SHOT Show last year when they were first promoted.

However, our instructor, Matthew Maruster, was able to secure one for review and demo a few months ago. You can see his written and video review here: https://www.usafirearmtraining.com/gear/heads-up-for-the-rock-island-armory-22-tcm-1911-video-review/

It looks like a fun round, and I’m sure the ballistics would be impressive even though it is such a small caliber bullet.

Thanks for listening to the podcast today!
